American Idols?

You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God. (Exodus 20:3-5a)

Friends, I want you to understand what an idol is. It doesn't have to be some crude carving made out of stone, wood, or precious metal. An idol is anything that you love more, serve more and fear more than God.

This month I will be preaching a sermon series entitled “American Idols.”  In our country today we have put many things above the Lord, and now we are reaping what we’ve sowed.  It’s time to take a hard look at what we exalt, and what we halt.  It’s time to challenge the church to raise God above everything else.  I encourage you to come out and hear this series that will draw you near to the one and true God, and your Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
